Hello!
So, last night I was 'creating' my web page and blog--I had been putting many 'deep throughts' in my blog for about 30 min. when POOF--it was gone! I was sad but now I think I will do what I have done for my classes on webCT and that is type everything in Word and copy/paste into the blog because with this class along with my other class I DO NOT have time for things to 'poof' away. I was very sad but now I must move on!
You have been warned!

Warned about what, Regina? Poofs late in the night? Oh, I am used to that poofing thing. It's rather magical, you know, because the second time round is usually better than the first time (that is, for redoing, re-entering whatever we were inputing). The most magical thing about the Poof! is it keeps us on our toes so it does not happen again. And when we forget, there's always a POOF to help remind us of patience and determination!
On a more serious note, Regina, glad to know that you have tried our blog and started on your webpage! Thank you for your effort and your wise reminder about POOF! Cutting and pasting is a good alternative to 'things that go poof in the nigh!

Name: "Elinor Brown"I have really enjoyed the company of this class. It is just a joy in the mundane reality of the workday (although I really enjoy my job). The visit to the SJC Library with Marge brought the opportunity to beg Frances for a demo of the storytelling process before we get too far and create a new form for the SJC Kids Kollege Kids. We also need to consider what Saturday would be the Flea Market/Coffe Cafe field trip. I am so glad that we can read Native American Children's Literature as my husband was so excited to help with my assignments by going to the library and selecting books for me to read and discover. I always knew there were " too many books and so little time"!

I thought the discussion we had at the Emerson Chee gallery was really interesting. I liked talking about the changes that are taking place in the Navajo culture. Many traditional teachings are being evolved to accomadate the growing prejudices brought in by different cultures. It's a sad thing and I think talking about the problem, in the least, keeps people from spreading prejudices and helps them to keep the traditional values pure.

Hello Everyone-
Today was a great day as always in this class we know how to have fun. I picked up a few books that I am willing to refer to you all if you would like. I have an interest in Native American authors in general but I have not concentrated on a lot of NA Childrens Lit authors. However I find alot of the ideas seem to be present in most of the books that I have read thus far. Setting up my web page will be quite a task I always stated firmly that I would never have a web page. I have learned from that: "Never say never". LOL....
Have a good day!

Andrea Kristina....was a great meeting place and our talk about culture differences is something that I can relate too. I have been identified with other culture group instead of being Native American and I can't figure out why? On the other hand living in this area I have experienced prachidis because I have dark skin. More than anything people need to understand that all people are different and it's these differences make us unique and special. Too bad the whole county can't take this class to be more informed about culture differences and to
learn about each other.

Name: "Angelica Powell"To bad that the Native Festival was cancelled but it gives the class the opportunity to share videos that we have seen. Plus we do not have to pay a $5.00 fee. I am looking forward to the pot-luck dinner mmmm. If anybody is done reading the books from San Juan College library please tell me which ones you recommend so that I can read them:). Learning about the blog is great because I thought I would be slow brained.

Name: "Elinor Brown"I just took the bias tests in the areas of Asian, Native, Arab and weight. I was so relieved that the tests showed what my heart felt. It is very interesting and I am glad I know my heart.

Name: "Elinor"I worked on my webpage most of yesterday. It was so fun, it was almost adicting. I am always up to learn something new, just so it isn't too hard. I have read several books by the same author and am starting to think about my author celebration. Looking forward to discussions and events this week.

Dear Alberta,
Not to worry about your spelling. We all make pselling mistakes!
Your web page looks great. One suggestion - when you talk about how you would use a web page with your students for instructional purposes, why don't you create it on your own webpage now.
Use the news front page to hightlight a book you have just read. Add to your updates about a class update, for example, going to the Flea Market and Ahweeh Gohweeh this Saturday, June 16 or our film festival. Create something yourself that is real, relevant and pertinent that you can practice on for now using Native Amercian Children's Literature as your content!
Hope this is helpful!-)................Frances

Name: "Kandice"I thought eating out for the first part of class was great. I think, if we have time on Tuesday, we could go out again. It was interesting at the library today. Too bad there wasn't any stroytelling, though.

It was another wonderful week at class! I enjoyed the ladies from San Juan school district Media center. It has been great to share the catalog with friends who have an interest in Native art and word for their classrooms and family.
I am so impressed with the Librarians we have met. I don't think I understood their role in selecting books, runnning programs , or just in general what they do for the consumer. I have a greater appreciation for their knowledge, dedication, and education.
I enjoyed having lunch at the Intertribal Indian Center. It is the eclectic style of this classroom that adds to the "flavor" and learning environment.
Looking forward to Saturday.

Name: "Angelica"I enjoyed hearing the comments on the books the class has read so far. I wrote down some of the titles and I look forward to reading them. I also wanted to let the class know that there is a book titled Fools Crow by James Wlech that I read and is something you can read after class because it is lengthy, but good.

Name: "Alberta"I surely enjoyed our class today. We are a reading bunch and a great lunch bunch and I enjoy everybody's comments. Although some authors and illustrators don't get it right sometimes, I am beginning to favor some. Joseph Bruchac is one and when I see his picture it's hard to see any indian in him but it's neat that he claims his indian-ness. It's too bad that authors and illustrators don't work together as much then maybe they can get books right from the beginning. Thinking on the same line some books have it done right and they are awesome. Thanks goodness for books!!

Name: "Elinor"This was a banner day! I enjoyed discussing the books and the memories. Thank you all for being a wonderful audience as my memories come to light. I appreciate that so much. I love hearing the stories of your lives as well. I only hope that I am a polite and active listner for you. The food was great, because it comes from the heart and the soda from the fountain just set the perfect stage. I enjoyed the flea market and the stories there. Thanks again.

Name: "Alberta Smallcanyon"Frances, I just want to comment about Jean Whitehorse. I am so glad she is pushing Navajo elders into the 21st century. Alot of them are afraid to take a step into learning for example using a cell phone but with people like her who know how to teach and present new information she is getting the chapter houses set for all to use. She is a wealth of knowledge and I felt like she was speaking to me. I sure enjoyed her presentation and she gave me lots of think about. Alberta

Name: "Alberta Smallcanyon"It's too bad we didn't have time to watch more movies. We had a great selection of movies we just didn't have the time. I can see the differences in the way society treated Native Americans especially in the urban areas. There was a way for them to find renewed strength and energy of spirit, it was just to go home. You may find some relief within some small groups that deal with those kinds of problems but nothing takes the place of home.
